Mocuil
I eventually want to type this up via The Homebrewery with proper art and formatting, but in the meantime enjoy this wall of text!
The Reptile Islands
Mocuil is an island region off the Western coast of Tevos. Composed mostly of jungle, the islands are home to the most diverse amounts of flora and fauna in all of Correl. The Mocolu are a sheltered people, very little having departed their remote island home. However, those who do, become fiercely respected politically, militarily, or scholarly. Most look upon the Mocolu with respect, but also fear.
Animal Tattoos
The Mocolu live within nature, and therefore carry with them an innate respect of the animals with which they cohabitate. They honor these creatures in various aspects of their culture: art, religion, and, most notably, combat. Mocolu warriors chose an animal after which they model their fighting style. Once chosen, the warrior receives tattoos representing this animal across their body, imbuing the warrior with their strengths. As such any player making a character from Mocuil can choose their animal and gain the benefits thereof.
Chameleon
Living mostly amongst the trees and foliage chameleons have evolved to avoid being preyed upon by the predators of the rainforest. Chameleons may be slow, and weak, but they have survived through mastery of the art of concealment. Mocolu with chameleon tattoos tend to observe and survey before acting, avoiding surprises. If your character has chameleon tattoos you gain the following benefits.
Color Change
Whether it means changing your clothes, size, or race you can become indistinguishable from your surroundings, avoiding all recognition. You know the Disguise Self spell and can cast it once per long rest. Intelligence is your spell casting bonus for this spell.
Binocular Vision
Chameleons are able to see all 360° of their environment by rotating their eyes in all directions. You too can focus on two things at once, even in battle. You cannot be flanked in combat.
Giant Tortoise
Long before the Mocolu, long before any creature roamed the jungles of Mocuil, there was the giant tortoise. Mocolu legend says some giant tortoises are older than time itself. The death of a giant tortoise often marks a significant change in Mocolu culture. Mocolu with giant tortoise tattoos would rather remain stationary than change, holding steadfast. If your character has giant tortoise tattoos you gain the following benefits.
Slow and Steady
The giant tortoises of Mocuil move extraordinarily slowly. They know their shells will keep them protected. You can increase your AC by 2 on your turn if you do not move. This effect lasts until the start of your next turn.
Long-lived
Just as giant tortoises defy time, death does not come easy for you. When dropped unconscious you only need to succeed 2 death saving throws to become stabilized. Conversely, you need to fail 4 death saving throws to die.
Dart Frog
Smallest of all the creatures in the jungle are the dart frogs. Enjoying the warm and moist climate of the rainforest means sharing it with even the most dangerous of predators. Dart frogs have adapted to their crowded habitat; leaping from branch to branch, puddle to puddle, rebuking all potential attacks with their innate toxicity. Mocolu with dart frog tattoos are quiet, skittish, and hard to pin down. If your character has dart frog tattoos you gain the following benefits.
Leaper
Dart frogs utilize their small size and strong legs to propel themselves across the jungle floor. Your jumping distance is always as if you are under the effects of the Jump spell.
Slippery Secretion
Dart frogs secrete a noxious poison that coats their slimy skin. This allows them to escape a predator’s grasp, leaving them to an untimely death. A creature grappling or restraining you takes poison damage equal to your CON modifier each turn they do so. This damage is dealt at the end of their turn.
Viper
Lurking in the underbrush sneaks the deadly viper. The respect Mocolu have for the animal kingdom approaches borderline fear with the most notorious snake in the jungle. However, some Mocolu see strength in the veiled cunning of the serpents. Mocolu with viper tattoos can be skilled assassins, striking effectively and efficiently. If your character has viper tattoos you gain the following benefits.
Venomous Strike
Vipers attack with their hollow fangs, injecting a toxin that slowly kills their meal in their jaws. You fight with venom just like your animal guide. Once per long rest you may add poison damage equal to your level to a weapon or spell attack.
Within Striking Distance
With their long bodies vipers launch themselves at their prey, attacking despite the best efforts to escape. When you make an opportunity attack against another creature, you do so with advantage.
Frilled Lizard
While Mocuil is dominated by jungle, the islands are also host to other ecosystems, mainly grasslands. This environment provides lots of opportunities for sunbathing as well as room to run for the frilled lizard. These flashy reptiles run across the island on their hind two legs at a surprisingly fast pace. If your character has frilled lizard tattoos you gain the following benefits.
Startling Display
Frilled lizards extend their ruffled skin out into a menacing display. You can also stand your ground and look frightening. You know the Cause Fear spell and can cast it once per long rest.
Reckless Speed
While the frilled lizard runs on its hind legs it rarely looks where it's going. You take after this recklessness. You may take the Dash action as a bonus action in exchange for lowering your AC by 2. This effect lasts until the start of your next turn.
Silverback
Possessing incredible strength and speed, the silverback is the most intimidating beast in the jungle. Only the strongest and fiercest of the Mocolu dare to tattoo themselves with such a specimen of natural power. A silverback warrior never shies from a battle, even if perhaps they should. If your character has silverback tattoos you gain the following benefits.
Jungle Muscle
Your bare hands are stronger than most. While trained with a traditional weapon you also possess the raw strength of the silverback. You may add your proficiency modifier to the Strength (Athletics) check you make to initiate a grapple, even if you are already proficient in the skill.
Canopy Climber
Silverbacks are incredibly adept at scaling the trees of the jungle. You take after them, scaling to great heights with ease. Your climbing speed is 30 ft.
