Accipia
I eventually want to type this up via The Homebrewery with proper art and formatting, but in the meantime enjoy this wall of text!
The Sovereign Hills
Occupying the southern coast in the Western half of Correl is the region of Accipia. A mostly temperate region dominated by rolling hills and vast piedmont, Accipia is home to several large city states as well as countless hamlets and villages. Bounded to the north by the Slate Mountains the people of Accipia had long been sheltered from the Opponese and Aalborn with whom the continent is shared.
The sovereign city states that make up the political landscape of Accipia are scattered throughout the region, nestled in valleys, along riverbanks and lakesides. Trade of goods and knowledge courses between these massive metropolises by both land and sea. However, relations amongst the cities differ: some are allies, some are indifferent, and some are bitter enemies altogether. Nevertheless, they all acknowledge the same truth: if you dare wander northwards into The Brake, may the gods have mercy on your soul, if it's still yours when you die.
The Six Rivers
While Accipians may devote themselves to one deity or another, their respect for nature remains universal. Regardless of pantheon, all Accipians recognize the physical and spiritual importance of the region's rivers. The spirits of the six main rivers therefore hold great significance. Many traditions are held, both locally and region wide, to commemorate their sanctity.
One such tradition is a coming of age ritual when a young man or woman attunes with the spirit of one of the six rivers. Once their decision is made they then travel, no matter how far, to the river of their choosing. There they disrobe and allow the river’s current to usher them into the salt waters of the ocean, signifying their transition to adulthood.
From then on, their lives are touched by their guardian river spirit. As such any player making a character from Accipia can choose the river they bathed in and gain the benefits thereof.
Fuomo, The First River
The Fuomo is the original river of Accipia. Stories tell of when the world was created, life flowed from the Fuomo. It is so old that the ancient Accipian word for river is fuomo. It is quite literally the “River River.” Accipians who chose this river value citizenship, loyalty, and reputation. If your character chose to bathe in the Fuomo you gain the following benefits.
Old Soul
Your mind has been opened by the spirit of the Fuomo. You seem wise beyond your years. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Fount of Wisdom
Much like how the Fuomo spread life, you spread your wisdom. Allies within 15 ft. of you may use your Wisdom modifier when making saving throws.
Reggiana, The Mother River
The Reggiana was the second river created in the beginning of time. The spirit of the Reggiana is often depicted as that of a loving mother. Accipians who chose this river value warmth, protection, and forgiveness. If your character chose to bathe in the Reggiana you gain the following benefits.
Embraced
You can always feel the comforting presence of the Reggiana within you. You feel protected at all times. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
Rescuer
The protecting spirit of the Reggiana envelopes you with safety. You do the same for your allies. When an ally is dropped to 0 hit points you may expend one of your own hit dice, allowing them to recover a number of hit points equal to one hit die + your CON modifier. This ability recharges after a long rest.
Pinardo, The Dammed River
Along the Pinardo is one of the greatest feats of modern engineering in all of Correl. The Dam at Silecia holds back massive amounts of drinking water for the surrounding population. Thanks to this modern miracle towns in close proximity to the aptly named Lake Pinardo have access to excellent resources such as plumbing and irrigation. Accipians who chose this river value knowledge, utility, and ingenuity. If your character chose to bathe in the Pinardo you gain the following benefits.
Mother of Invention
The dam is a marvel of mathematics, science, and construction. You have been granted exceptional intuition. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Dam Burst
You have a knack for fixing your mistakes and learning from your failures. Whenever you use your attack action to make an attack roll and miss you gain one Dam Point. Before you roll an attack roll you may decide to spend all of your Dam Points and add that number to the result of the roll. If that attack roll does not succeed you do not get an additional Dam Point.
Tempesta, The Raging River
In the northern hills of Accipia flows the rapid waters of the Tempesta. Fed by melting ice caps in the Slate Mountains, the Tempesta splashes violently through the countryside until pouring itself into the sea. Accipians who chose this river value bravery, determination, and glory. If your character chose to bathe in the Tempesta you gain the following benefits.
White Water
The raging spirit of the Tempesta fills your every bone. Its raw power surges through your veins. Your Strength score increases by 1.
White-knuckled
Braving the rapids of the Tempesta is to some, their greatest fear. Having entered the surf and lived, nothing gives you trepidation. You cannot be frightened, even by magical means.
Gemelli, The Twin Rivers
The Gemelli begins its journey as one, but often before it reaches the sea it splits into two. The Gemelli forks around towns, bisected by towering rock formations and wooded isles, tumbling carelessly towards reunification in the open ocean. Accipians who chose this river value flexibility, gracefulness, and ambience. If your character chose to bathe in the Gemelli you gain the following benefits.
Nonchalant
The Gemelli braids its way through the Accipian terrain with ease, taking the path of least resistance. You too can now navigate conflict effortlessly. Your Charisma score increases by 1.
Seeing Double
The duality of the Gemelli imbues your spirit with evasive duplicity. As a reaction you can create an illusory copy of yourself 5 ft. away. This imposes disadvantage on any attack roll against you until the start of your next turn. A creature with truesight can see through this mirage and is not subject to the effects of the illusion. This ability recharges after a long rest.
Cozzi, The Winding River
The spring that births the Cozzi lies only miles from the Eastern shore of Accipia; however, it is one of the longest rivers in the region. The Cozzi bends and curves quickly throughout Accipia’s many hills. Often looping back into itself, coiling and twisting around self-made islands and marshes. The river known by today is not the one known by tomorrow. Accipians who chose this river value change, unpredictability, and surprise. If your character chose to bathe in the Cozzi you gain the following benefits.
Zigzagged
Straight channels of the Cozzi can quicken and swerve with sudden volatility. The uncertain movements of the river become part of your nature. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Ebb and Flow
Dry river beds become submerged within hours; flowing streams, mud by afternoon. Your actions, like the Cozzi’s, become incalculable. You cannot be grappled nor restrained.
